Self-Help Tips For Dealing With Depression
by hally obermyer - Sunday, 15 June 2008, 10:11 PM
Anyone in the world
By Michael Russell Most of us have been there at some point. We're overcome by a feeling that doesn't seem to want to go away. Some event or circumstance may have brought this on, or it could possibly be a condition that we're predisposed to. Depression. It can be quite debilitating to some people. So much so that they get to the point where drastic measures need to be taken to protect their well-being. Most often at this point harsh drugs would be prescribed to control the depressive state. However, for those who may not quite be at that stage, but are looking for a way out of their depression, there may be steps they can take to help lift the cloud. Here we will explore some options for self-help. First of all, think positively. It sounds easy, but this may be the most difficult step for a person suffering from depression to take. Whenever you find yourself drifting into thoughts of self-doubt, do your best to correct yourself and channel your thoughts to something more pleasant. It can be tough at first, but the more you work at it, eventually the easier it will be. The mind CAN be trained to think positively. Do something nice for someone else. Often times the act of performing a selfless deed can be quite rewarding. Help a friend if they're in need, or if you're feeling really ambitious, join a volunteer organization and begin a regular routine of chipping in some of your valuable time. You'll be helping those in need and the sense of satisfaction you take from it can be more rewarding than you think. Exercise. Exercise is a terrific stress reliever and has the power to help foster a more vibrant attitude. If you're feeling the effects of depression, get up and take a walk, or start a regular exercise routine. Set goals for yourself fitness wise and watch the results. Your sense of accomplishment at meeting and even surpassing your goals can be quite uplifting. Sing. Find a song, or CD you enjoy with an uplifting beat to it. Turn your stereo up and let fly. Have fun with it and before you know it, the blues will melt away. Chocolate. It may sound silly, but eating chocolate has been found to help lighten a person's mood. Chocolate helps release endorphins, which help foster improvements in well-being, as well as help relieve pain. So indulge in your favorite chocolate when you're feeling blue. Associate with happy people. The more you associate with more cheerful friends and family, the less chance you have of feeling down. So spend time with people you enjoy as often as possible. These are just a few tips to help you along. If you have tried these tips with no success and you find that your depressive state has not improved, or has gotten worse. You would be strongly advised to see your doctor as soon as possible. You may suffer from a chemical imbalance or a disorder that may require professional treatment. If left untreated your condition could lead to serious harm to yourself or someone you care about. So if you feel you're at risk, seek help immediately. Sealed With the Holy Spirit
by hally obermyer - Wednesday, 11 June 2008, 11:02 PM
Anyone in the world
By Mike Bradley At the moment of salvation when we accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, three most amazing things will happen. The first is that we get automatic forgiveness for all of our sins - all past, present and future sins that we will ever commit. The second thing that will occur is that we will get to go straight to heaven when we die and cross over because we have now become saved and born again. However, there is a third thing that will occur that some Christians really don't realize or have full knowledge of. At the exact moment that we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and become saved and born again - we also instantaneously "receive" the third person of the Godhead - the Holy Spirit Himself! The Bible tells us that both God and Jesus live in heaven. However, when we become saved and born again - we literally get to receive the Holy Spirit Himself. He literally, and I mean literally, comes to live on the inside of us. As you will see in the Scripture verses I will list below - our bodies have now become the temple of the Holy Spirit because He is now living on the inside of us! Not only does the Holy Spirit come to live on the inside of us as a result of accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, but the Bible also tells us that we have now become "sealed" with the Holy Spirit. According to Webster's Dictionary, the word seal means "to confirm, authenticate or guarantee - to pledge." In two Scripture verses I will list below, the Bible tells us that we are given the Holy Spirit by God the Father as a "guarantee" and as a "deposit." When God says that we are sealed by His Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation in Him and Jesus - He is giving us a very powerful revelation on what is actually occurring in the spiritual realm. Not only are we receiving the presence of the Holy Spirit, but we are also being sealed with His presence. That seal now becomes a very powerful bond between us and God. Though I do believe that it is possible for a Christian to lose his or her salvation per the article I have done on that topic - I believe that it will take quite a bit to break this seal - this bond that we now have established with God and Jesus. This seal is not easily broken. Here are the specific verses from the Bible that tell us that we will "receive" the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation, that our bodes have now become the temple of the Holy Spirit and that we have now been "sealed" with the presence of the Holy Spirit. 1. Receiving the Holy Spirit at the Moment of Salvation This first verse will tell us that we receive the Holy Spirit at the moment of our salvation with Jesus - not sometime later. Here it is: Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call." (Acts 2:38) Notice that this verse is talking about those who are actually getting saved. When you "repent" and you are getting "remission" for your sins - you are in the process of getting saved by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. You cannot truly repent and get forgiveness and remission for your sins unless you first are willing to accept Jesus as your Savior. Then notice what the verse says next. After you have repented and have accepted Jesus as your Savior - then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit Himself. I believe that this verse is telling us that we will receive the Holy Spirit the moment we accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior. It will happen right then and there - not sometime later. Some people will get saved and water baptized at the same time. Others get saved, and then baptized at a later date. The Holy Spirit will come into you at the moment you get saved - not at the moment you go through a water baptism. If you go through the water baptism at a later date - the Holy Spirit is not going to wait until you do that. He will enter into you right at the moment that you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior - no matter where that may take place at. 2. Our Bodies Are Now the Temple of the Holy Spirit The above Scripture verse tells us that we will "receive" the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation. So once we receive Him - exactly where does He go? The next set of verses will tell us that He will literally come to enter on the inside of us. The Bible says that we have three parts to our beings - body, soul and spirit. Our human spirits are referred to our as our "innermost being" by the Bible. The Holy Spirit will enter into and actually live and dwell in your human spirit. As a result of the Holy Spirit now living on the inside of us in our human spirits - the Bible tells us that our bodies have now become the "temple" of the Holy Spirit since we now carry His presence on the inside of us. Here are 5 good verses telling us that the Holy Spirit now literally lives on the inside of us and that our bodies are now considered the actual temple of the Holy Spirit. "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." (1 Corinthians 6:19) "Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?" (1 Corinthians 3:16) "If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are." (1 Corinthians 3:17) "But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His." (Romans 8:9) "But if the Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you." (Romans 8:11) Notice that first verse tells us to now glorify God in both our bodies and our spirits. I believe this verse is giving us key insight that the Holy Spirit is now living on the inside of our human spirits and as such, our bodies have now become His temple. Notice this verse does not use the word "soul" - but only "spirit." Our soul and spirits are two separate parts inside of our beings. When the Holy Spirit initially comes to us - He will literally take up residence in our human spirits. However, I believe that there is a second experience that can occur where the Holy Spirit will release from your human spirit to come up into your soul area. This second experience has been called by many the "Baptism of the Holy Spirit." Our spirits are baptized with His presence at the moment of salvation, but our souls can also be baptized with His presence. For a detailed explanation on what this second experience is all about and how to go about actually receiving it - go to my article titled "How to Receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit" under the "Bible Basics" page. 3. Sealed with the Holy Spirit As a result of having received the presence of the Holy Spirit Himself at the moment of our conversions, the Bible tells us that we have now been "sealed" with His presence. Here are 3 good verses all using the word "seal" in reference to the Holy Spirit now living on the inside of us and a fourth verse that says that the Holy Spirit has been given to us as a "guarantee." "And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption." (Ephesians 4:30) "Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a deposit." (2 Corinthians 1:21) "In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory." (Ephesians 1:13) "Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee." (2 Corinthians 5:5 ) To think that God the Father would allow the third Person of His Godhead to come down and literally enter into the inside of us where our bodies have now become the temple of His Holy Spirit is truly awesome and completely mind-blowing! Conclusion Now that we know that we have the Holy Spirit living on the inside of us - what will He do with us? What kind of activity can we expect from Him? I will be doing additional articles in the very near future on some of the incredible things that will start to happen to you once you open yourself up to Him and allow Him to start to become much more active in your life. But for right now, for those of you who have not received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit where He is now residing up in your soul area, I would highly recommend that you go to my article titled "How to Receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit." If you are willing to take this extra step and receive this second gift that is available to all believers - your whole life will take a major turn in the Lord Article written by Michael Bradley of Bible Knowledge Ministries. Marketing Research: Know Your Customers
by hally obermyer - Saturday, 7 June 2008, 06:03 PM
Anyone in the world
By Otilia Otlacan Having a competitive advantage over other businesses targeting the same market as yours is a basic, survival must: many choose to develop longterm relationships with their customers, in an attempt to create such competitive advantage. Knowing your customers is crucial, and it is quite a different thing from knowing their buying behavior. It is every marketer's dream to have real, up-to-date information about consumers: their preferences, opinions, attitudes, beliefs, interests, education level, behavior are the base of understanding their needs. Businesses often employ Marketing research to determine the consumers' degree of acceptance of a new product, and the reason behind this is the fact that launching a new product without a real demand would involve much more costs than actual market research. Plus, a failed product launch is not only damaging for a business' finances but also its image and reputation. Any marketing research upon consumers' profile should address at least the following questions: Who makes the market of a product? A company active on any given market must ask itself who its customers are. Are they mostly young people, or perhaps elderly? Women or men? What would their income levels be? This is the demographic information that can be a starting point in creating a customer profile. What do people buy? Is there a certain product consumers seem to prefer? Can we detect a trend of migrating to a given product? Will the market accept new products or changes in existing ones? These questions could offer a perspective on the mechanisms triggering buying decisions; the answers could indicate just how open to changes customers are. Why do people buy? Many businesses ignore the reasons why their customers choose one product or another. While we all know that impulse buying is a reality, most purchases are still made on reasons of benefits, value, satisfaction. Hence, we should ask ourselves "Why certain products are more popular among consumers and are perceived as being superior to others?" Who takes the buying decision? It is critical to know who is actively involved in the buying process, as the users of a product are not necessarily the ones to buy it. For example, food items destined to children are normally bought by a parent, which means the advertising messages should be aimed at parents and not at children. Identifying the real decision makers is an important part of any consumers research study. How is the buying decision taken? What are the reasons followed by consumers when making a buying decision? A marketer should remember that these reasons are likely to be influenced by a variety of social, cultural, economic factors. When do people buy? Some products are requested and are offered only in certain periods of a year, as demand can be driven by social or cultural factors (think of seasonal holidays, for example). Consumers' lifestyle might also dictate the day or week when shopping is done. Where do people buy? Identifying the preferred location for people to buy is yet another important task in researching consumers' behaviour. Where do they buy from? Supermarkets? The corner shop? New, creative venues can be employed, such as e-commerce web sites. Marketing research relies on other sciences as well, such as psychology or sociology. Being able to develop the products consumers need, and then market them in accordance to the consumers' behavior lay the basis for competitive advantages and shape the strategic decisions a business must make. Show Me the Money: Maximizing Tradeshow ROI
by hally obermyer - Tuesday, 3 June 2008, 02:19 PM
Anyone in the world
By Susan Friedmann I hear it all the time: Tradeshows are a waste of time and money. We stand around, selling our hearts out, and what do we have to show at the end of the day? Nothing. Well, that's the result you should expect, if you're like most exhibitors, and neglect the most crucial aspect of tradeshow participation: Follow Up. What happens at the tradeshow is obviously import to your success, but equally important is what happens after the show ends. This is where most exhibitors drop the ball. Differentiate your company from its peers and wring the full value from your tradeshow participation. To truly benefit from all the hard work what went into exhibiting, must ensure that appropriate follow-up activities take place. Follow Up Begins Before the Show Research tells us that over 80% of leads gathered at tradeshows are never followed up. That's a phenomenal number, especially when each lead has the potential to generate profit for your company. Why do so many leads fall by the wayside? It's because show leads have a reputation for having no substance theyre either just cold business cards or similar basic information imprinted on a company lead card. There's nothing there to give already busy professionals a reason to follow up. Even if the salespeople do follow up, there's only so much they can learn from a business card or bare bone information. For salespeople to view leads as being worthwhile for follow-up, they need quality information. For this reason, it is vital that before the show you spend time going over the lead collecting process. Clarify exactly what types of information should be recorded on lead cards. Explain the importance of the information you are gathering. Make sure everyone knows exactly how to operate the card readers and use the printouts and lead cards. Everyone working the show should know exactly what results you want to achieve at the various tradeshows you attend. Each show should have its own set of specific, clear, quantifiable, realistic goals. These goals should be in line with your companys overall marketing objectives. These goals give staffers something to strive for, but they also serve as benchmarks to evaluate and measure team and individual performance. Develop a Follow Up System To achieve and perhaps surpass your specific goals, you need a follow up system. The best time to develop your follow up system is during the planning and training stage. Use this time prior to the show establish how the leads will be handled. For example, select a team member to take responsibility for collecting all "hot" leads at the end of each day and overnight them to the home office for immediate processing. Assign someone at the home office as a follow-up manager. This person takes charge of the entire follow-up process and should be someone who does not attend the show. Their job is to carry out the follow-up system that was established before the show. Timeliness is of essence with all leads, not just the "hot" ones. Obviously you're not going to overnight every single lead back to the home office, but there are steps you can take to ensure you stand out from the crowd of exhibitors. It is important to send something, such as a letter, email, or broadcast fax, to everyone who came by the booth to thank them and let them know when they can expect to hear from your company again. This should be done within three to five days after the show. Remember, if you don't follow up, your competitors will. The Next Step: Accountability Use contact management database programs to ensure your sales staff get leads that are as complete and useful as possible. Then, after leads are distributed, hold your account representatives responsible for the results. There should be a written progress report from each salesperson at regular, predetermined intervals. This information can be used to track their performance, sales made, etc. Some companies use performance in lead follow up as one factor in a salesperson's annual performance review. Knowing that they will be held accountable for results is a powerful motivator. Measuring results At the end of the day, management wants to know their money was well spent. Keeping track of your leads will allow you to measure sales directly attributable to your tradeshow participation. Recording this data will allow you to provide qualitative and quantitative analysis of the show. For example, you can calculate the return-on-investment to demonstrate to management the effect tradeshows have on the bottom line. To measure the cost per tradeshow lead, simply divide your total show expenditure by the number of leads gathered. To measure the cost per sale, divide the total show expenditure by the number of sales. Qualitative data, such as types of prospects who visited the booth, dates and times of their visit, products/services of interest, buying intent, and results of any pre-show promotional activity often proves invaluable when planning future show participation. The key to tradeshow success is wrapped up in the lead management process. It starts with knowing at the outset what you want to achieve, then continues through establishing a strategy that is user-friendly, and finally the actual follow-up operation leads to bottom-line profitability. With a little forethought and planning the results will speak for themselves. Written by Susan A. All Marketers are Thieves
by hally obermyer - Friday, 30 May 2008, 12:34 AM
Anyone in the world
By Stoney DeGeyter A famous marketing has been quoted as saying all marketers are liars. I certainly won't argue with that principle. Marketing is often about who can BS the best. But I also think its true that all marketers are thieves. Several months ago Chevy started an "Employee Discount" marketing campaign where us average Joes can get a car for the same price as Chevy employees. Guess what, it worked! Shortly after Ford started their own campaign called the "Family Discount". It must have worked for them too because they extended the sale a few extra weeks. Every great while someone comes up with a stellar marketing idea. It isn't long before that idea is copied, rinsed, washed, and repeated over and over gain. How many different bumper stickers do you still see copying the "got milk" campaign? "got sand", "got jesus", "got fruit", "got laughs" and so on and so forth. If its good, they will copy. But if something works, why shouldn't it be copied? Why shouldn't you take someone else's concept and make it your own? As a marketer, it's your job to see what works and then find ways to apply that to whatever you are selling. Of course, the more popular a marketing campaign is and the better it works, the harder it will be to steal it without looking like a thief. The trick is to take an idea and turn it into something new, something different enough to be yours, but the same enough to still be effective. The idea here is to not get caught copying the obvious. Look around, there are plenty of good marketing ideas all around. I didn't go to Burger King looking for a marketing idea, but because my eyes were open, I found one, and stole it. What have you stolen lately? Stoney deGeyter is president of Pole Position Marketing, a Reno SEO firm providing search engine optimization and marketing services since 1998. Smart Coin Investors Build Rare Coin Sets
by hally obermyer - Tuesday, 27 May 2008, 12:56 PM
Anyone in the world
By Michael Russell A while ago, coin collectors and coin investors were usually considered to be two different categories. A coin collector was just considered to be a hobbyist and collected his coins for their beauty and educational and historical backgrounds. A coin investor however collected his coins for profit and nothing else. Today, these two groups are a thing of the past. Now the group's boundaries have become blurred. What happened to the two distinctive groups? Investors were suddenly noticing a popular trend. And all of a sudden hobby collectors were starting to sweep up the profits. Why? What happened? Maybe the hobbyists knew something that the investors didn't and maybe the hobbyists had a different approach to buying coins that was different. Investors started to study the "lowly" hobbyists and their buying habits. They started to learn more about the collector's "fundamentals". The investors were intrigued to find out that the hobbyists were building meaningful sets of coins. And many of these sets were selling for much more money than the individual coins might. The concept of collecting "coin sets" was new to the investors. But they paid heed. Then the investors noticed another thing the hobbyists were doing. They focused their attention on the nature of the coins and the stories and history behind them. When the hobbyist assembled a collection of coins with similar backgrounds he collected a theme set, not just a group of unrelated coins. Another thing collectors did was to be able and willing to add time to their investment plans. This is a very valuable aspect of building wealth through collecting coins for sets. The hobbyists understood that the best sets might contain coins that were not easily available or even easily located. So they just learned to become patient and kept up the vigil in order to locate that elusive and oftentimes valuable coin. This patience does definitely pay off, since some of the finest collections in the world were collected and assembled over decades. An interesting example is the Harold Bareford Gold Collection. This set was assembled in the early fifties for $13,800.00. Today, this amount doesn't seem to be a whole lot, but if you can imagine back then, that it was the price of a modest home, so you can appreciate the value of the collection at the time. Several years were required to complete the collection and in 1978 it sold for 1.2 million! It might not be typical, but it is a good example to coin collectors that well though-out and designed collections can result in extraordinary returns. Collectors of sets do not always bring a profit of course, but carefully planned collectors can often realize more money. And since a set draws more attention, its liquidation can be increased. Of course, the process of locating, acquiring and building a set is more fun that just collecting individual coins. Even the investors have figured that out since they learned that the historical relationship of the coin becomes more important and more valuable within a set. So when you start your coin collection, keep in mind the value of coin sets. It could be a collection of the entire mint of the coin, or just a collection of one of each year. It could also be the theme of the coins. When you start collecting your coins, think sets and you'll be on your way to a great coin collection! By Patty Stripes The trouble is you cant really afford to go all out yet and have a brand spanking new booth designed. Your bottom line is saying no, but your heart and intuition are saying yes. Buying a used trade show booth is the answer to your dilemma! Which is also the first reason for buying a used booth. Money! Yes, you can save quite a bit of money by purchasing a used one. Used trade show booths can be big bargains and can be found to fit most any budget, no matter how small. The second reason you should consider buying a used trade show booth is that the affordability factor means that the money you save can be put into other trade show event promotional items. Face it, people not only want free stuff from you at a trade show, they expect it. And the more money you can spend on your promo items, the better! A third reason for buying a used trade show booth is that if you plan to do a lot of trade shows, it only makes sense to own your own boothfor the same reason it makes more sense to buy a house than to rent an apartment. You make your investment in a used trade show booth and its yours to keep foreveror sell to someone else when youre ready to upgrade to a brand new booth. The money youve saved in booth rentals will go a long way toward your purchase of the booth of your dreams. Fourth, buying a used trade show booth not only lowers your financial risks, it lowers your stress levels as well! Financially, youve invested only what you can spend, which has pleased your bottom line. And because you own your trade show booth, you can relax, knowing exactly what you have and not having the stress of worrying if the booth rental will be on time, up to snuff, etc. This means you have more time and energy to put into other important thingslike packing great clothes to take with you to the trade show! Finally, the fifth reason you should consider buying a used trade show booth is that it allows you to learn the ups and downs of trade show events and work out all the bugs in your trade show exhibition program without having to make a major investment. This makes it possible to please yourself, your accountant and your customers, while learning if trade show events are truly profitable and worth the effort for your business. Do Wildcrafted Herbs Perform As Well As Organic Essential Oils?
by hally obermyer - Sunday, 18 May 2008, 04:17 PM
Anyone in the world
By Nancy Boyd When choosing your essential oils, there are two things you want to consider: purity, and potency. How do you know that you are getting the best essential oils, if you have two kinds to choose from: those made from wildcrafted herbs, and those made with organically grown herbs? For some people, it is a matter of preference and it depends on which essential oils you want. For some kinds of essential oils (rose, for instance), it is important to know the country or region of origin, as well as whether it is wildcrafted or organically grown. Most people know that the best rose essential oils come from a region in Bulgaria; the roses may or may not be grown organically, and they almost certainly will not be wildcrafted. The main difference between wildcrafted herbs or flowers and organically grown is that wildcrafted herbs generally are not grown under commercial conditions and, therefore, not subject to the chemicals and fertilizers that agricultural companies might apply to the soil or crop. So they will usually already be free of objectionable substances, which is one of the main reasons you would seek organic essential oils for their purity. As for the potency, some people feel that wildcrafted herbs and flowers may be more potent than their organically grown counterparts. Until widespread laboratory analyses are conducted to reveal scientific differences in compounds, you must compare the results of both kinds, to select what feels right to you. The differences can sometimes be in what you prefer: the pristine conditions of a plant grown entirely in Nature, with no assistance from humankind or plants grown under careful organic standards, that ensure proper health and well-being of both the plant and the humans or animals who will ultimately benefit. Most of the time, both essential oils made from wildcrafted herbs and organic essential oils will give you the results you want with none of the unwanted properties from commercially grown/chemically treated herbs or plants. In making the Blue Eagle Invocation Liquid Smudge (made by traditional Native Americans in a sacred way), both wildcrafted and organically grown herbs and plants are used. The formula is stronger because of the careful way the ingredients are chosen, and in the way the essential oils and organic grain alcohol base are blended and prepared. From long term experience with the Blue Eagle Invocation, I would say that both wildcrafted and organic essential oils have merit and should be considered for any of your aromatherapy needs. Anyone in the world
By Tara Pingle Spousal support also known as Maintenance or Alimony is seeing an emerging new trend, according to the Colorado-based law firm of Hull & Zimmerman. That trend is the division of stock options. As more and more people are awarded stock options through their place of employment, Colorado courts are starting to take those options into account when it comes to the division of assets following a divorce. This is just one reason why experts recommend enlisted the services of a qualified attorney if you are undergoing a divorce. In addition to stock options, there are many other factors involved in determining the amount of alimony one spouse receives from the other. According the Hull & Zimmerman, four other main factors are: 1) The standard of living of the spouses during the marriage. 2) The marketable skills of each spouse i.e., how likely each person will be able to support themselves to such as a degree as is comparable to the standard of living achieved during the marriage. 3) The duration of the marriage 4) The age and health of each spouse. Alimony, once established, is hard to change. Basically, in most cases, alimony changes only when one person either dies or gets re-married. Because its so hard to change later, its important to obtain proper alimony right away. Experts agree -- an attorney familiar with Colorado divorce law is an invaluable asset when it comes time obtain spousal support.
